Bug Description

When I plug in headphones, the sound is very quiet, even when I crank the volume to the maximum.
If I go to the sound settings and switch the connector from analog headphones to analog speakers, then the sound is fine.
If I unplug the headphones, the sound comes out of the speakers again just fine.
If I plug in the headphones again, the sound is low, and I have to go back and change the sound settings. This happens every time I plug in headphones.

I installed the "crack of the day" alsa-driver code as recommended in bug lp:654008, and it solved my problem.

I found a similar problem on my laptop using this chipset:

Volume of the internal speakers is good. But when I plug in some speakers, the signal is almost not existent, even with maximum volume settings.

Peter, did you try changing the sound settings from analog headphones to analog speakers? Did you try the alsa-driver I linked to? If so, what happened?

Plug in a headphone switches speakers off but no sound from headphones. As soon as headphones are plugged in, the slide control for 'Speakers' in Alsamixer drops down to zero. (The 'Headphones' control in Alsamixer has no effect and cannot be used.) Raising the Speakers controll will give sound to headphones.
