Bug Description

Version: 2.0.0+svn300-1.1ubuntu1

I plugged in a Xerox Phaser 3160N to my laptop's USB port. The laptop is running precise. The printer is detected as "Xerox Phaser 3160". Printing a test page yielded a page containing the following text:

INTERNAL ERROR - Please use the proper driver.

POSITION : 0x0 (0)

SYSTEM : h6fw_5.35/xl_op

LINE : 167

VERSION : SPL 5.35 06-03-2009

I haven't tried printing over the network yet.

Can you try whether your printer works as a "Generic PCL5c printer" (color printers only), a "Generic PCL-5e printer" (monochrome printers only), a "Generic PCL-6/XL printer", and/or a "Generic PostScript printer"?

I randomly tried "Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer Foomatic/pxlcolor" first and it seems to work pretty well in my initial tests.

Would you like me to try the others too?

Please test also the others. After that I will make the needed driver assignments and recommend a better driver for this printer.

The printer has no PPD file in SpliX, so no fix in the splix package is needed. Only driver assignments for this printer in the foomatic-db package have to be done.

I have registered your printer on OpenPrinting now, for now only as working with the "pxlcolor" driver. Please tell me whether it works also with other drivers as I asked you for in comment #1 and comment #3.

The test page also looks OK with "pxlmono" and "hpijs-pcl5c". "hpijs-pcl5e" gives a somewhat different result to the others — the yellow and the green circles are much lighter and I suspect incorrect.

Thank you very much. I will also add the "hpijs-pcl5c" for this printer and then upload an updated foomatic-db package.

The "hpijs-pcl5e" driver is only for monochrome (grayscale) printing. If it prints in color for you, we cannot guarantee correct colors and we have to assume that it is not compatible with this printer.
