Got this when I moved the mouse in the "Activities" corner. Screen freeze, gnome-shell restart.

I can confirm that this happened to me, when I moved to the "Activities" corner aswell. My bug report had a slightly different message, but was marked duplicate of this one.

This happens when a new application is installed using apt-get from the command line that has a new icon that would be shown in the activities display.

This bug affects me as well, when hovering over "activities".

It happens on multiple machines, both 64-bit; one Nvidia and one ATI.

It does not always happen; usually after a re-load (after the crash) the Activities corner works just fine for a while. Not quite sure what changes; it seems random and sporadic.

*I'm running an X64 machine, 3.2 Black Phenom II x4, with 12GB RAM, and a
Nvidia GT430 vid card. The problem that was reported, only happened once,
and only when I was using the Gnome option at log in. Normally, I run the
Unity shell, and have not encountered the problem there. FYI.

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-shell - 3.4.1-0ubuntu2

---------------
gnome-shell (3.4.1-0ubuntu2) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * 10-make-NetworkManager-optional.patch:
    - Disabled, it doesn't work right and isn't used for Ubuntu
      architectures anyway.
  * Refreshed patches
