Document 0.4 needs tracker 0.14. I don't know if tracker 0.14 will make it into Ubuntu 12.04 or not since I couldn't get tracker's evolution support to build.

The new Documents is available in the GNOME3 PPA though.

Jonathan Yip (helkaluin) wrote :

The current version of gnome-documents shipped with Precise, 0.3.4, doesn't provide the ShellSearchProvider DBus service that is introduced in 0.3.90. Gnome-shell 3.4, which is shipped with Precise, relies on this to provide files results in overview because the gtk-recent-document search backend is removed. If we don't update gnome-documents to at least 0.3.90 in Precise then users will have only applications and nautilus bookmarks shown in their gnome shell overview search.

Jeremy, thanks for the information.

I would like also to point that the current version of track has a serious bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker/+bug/947392) that make it unusable at least for some of us.

Ok, well this is the regression bug that prevented me from asking for the Feature Freeze Exception to upload tracker 0.14. Interestingly, the same tracker packaging builds just fine on Debian.

I've just upgraded and I wanted to point out that this doesn't seem to fix the bug with documents not showing up in Gnome Shell search.

Also, Documents window seems to be empty whatever I do (it shown some old OpenOffice data until I restarted computer, now it is completely empty and seems to ignore documents at all).

Just upgraded to Precise and can confirm that the bug doesn't seem to be fixed. Recent Documents don't show up in the Gnome Search, neither in LibreOffice.
A fix or a workaround would be great.

Stefanie or Michal, please open a new bug for document search not working in GNOME's Activities Overview. This bug was about getting gnome-document 0.4 in Ubuntu which happened.

Jeremy: Thanks, you're right. Instead of opening a new bug I would like to point to this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/970686 It seems to be "my" bug.
