Bug Description
This may have been an issue since at least the 11.10 series: it is rare I find an hd-media installer + alternate i386 ISO combination, that can successfully load an Xubuntu preseed installation. ISOs have had the generic, but not the PAE, kernel: so the installer gets a "No kernel modules were found" error.

Sounds like the right answer here is to generate a non-PAE variant of hd-media.
