Me too.. Unity can't store settings for edge bindings, had to run "unity --replace" on every new session to reinitialize all plugins and update their settings to make changes take effect.

The same happened to me but I've resetted the setting (in my case show desktop) with the "x" symbol and then re-setted and from that it didn't happened more also after several restarts.

Summary of workarouns:

1. press Alt+F2 and run command "unity --replace" on every new session.

2. export your profile with ccsm, install gnome-session-fallback, log in gnome classic session, import your profile from there.

note on point 2:

settings will be remembered on every new session but your gnome classic session will be replaced by a unity session (you can still access to gnome classic (no effects) for panel like desktop)

Call me a fool but after I have installed preload and enabled prelink, it took me two seconds more to boot but now evry session charge correcly every compiz plugins, works like a charm.
