Bug Description

Ubuntu 12.04, 64bit
remmina 1.0.0-1ubuntu5

Using a dualscreen setup with remmina open in fullscreen mode on one workspace on one screen, switching to another worspace (ctrl+alt+left/right) will make remmina jump to along, or to another workspace. Clicking on the moved fullscreen remmina will some times make it move back to the original workspace.

It should stay on the workspace/screen it was opened on.

Remmina will also open randomly to another workspace. It can be difficult to find at times.

I had this issue on Oneiric as well, but could live with it, as I could just go out of full screen, move the window, and go ful screen again to fix the problem.
Howeever in Precise, there might be a related problem, in that when I go out of full screen now, and make it go into full screen again, it kinda goes into full screen, but in a window. In a way, it seems like it's trying to go into fullscreen accross both monitors, but fails, and is banished into a windows.
Generally this happens if the connection is not initiated with full screen. Clicking the full screen button in the window produce this behaviour.

Do you guys have similiar behaviour?

Oh sweet baby jesus, yes. It's like hammering cockroaches sometimes. :)

I'm wondering if it relates to the fullscreen mode being a pixel over the edge or something?

Please update to the newest version of compiz (in precise-proposed).
And please check if this fixes your issue.

I have noticed that the behaviour may vary a bit depending upon the way the monitors are setup relative to each other, screen sizes, the height of the moon in the horizon, whether I swung a dead chicken over my head last night/this morning, etc.
The short of the long is that I am not experiencing my above described behaviour now, but it comes and goes depending on my setup.

I just realized that I run v. 0.9.99.1 which is the default at the moment in 12.04. Anyone know of a ppa with newer version I can test?

Seems Remmina is unaware of it's true version. Synaptic says 1.0.0-1ubuntu6, but Remminas own "About" says 0.9.99.1.

Seems there are multiple bugs reported on this issue. I just posted my contributing whine to 993432 (q.v.):

I'm running 12.04 (recently upgraded from 11.10), and remmina 1.0.0.1 (or so it says in synaptic; about box reads 0.9.99.1, but I suspect that's just out of date).

Where do the developers actually hang out these days? The boards on sourceforge seem dead - so is the proper place to look on github? (https://github.com/FreeRDP/Remmina)

The jumping between workspaces is constant, consistant and most annoying.

Ok, seems, that this issue isn't related to remmina, but compiz. If I tried gnome-shell, it was still "jumping" but when I used Unity 2D as WM and there is no Remmina workspace jumping at all!!

If it is related to compiz, can we track down one setting that seems to be the cause?

I agree that this is a really annoying bug (whether it is compiz or remmina). An easy workaround is to disable horizontal additional workspaces, e.g. with the myunity package (under Desktop set H Desktop to minimum). Then, compiz is unable to move your remmina windows around in annoying ways. The downside is that you are now down to 2 workspaces unless you increase them vertically, at which point the expose mode starts not to look as nice

Still here on quantal.
I used unity2d as a workaround since remmina worked well with it, so the problem seems to be with compiz.
Now unity2d has been removed from quantal, so the issue is critical again.

I've been using Remmina since the beginning of this bug report, but only today did I begin to experience this particular bug. Perhaps a recent update that attempted to fix this actually broke it for me?

The problem I just started having, is that I will double click on an remote desktop connection, and it will launch into the workspace right-of my main workspace. It makes you think it didn't launch at all; only later did I figure out that it was actually opening into the wrong workspace.

I do have dual monitors, but it isn't launching to the wrong "monitor" it is launching to the wrong workspace.

I have this problem as well - its very annoying. So what i do to work around it is this.

1.) Set tab to not always show (get extra real estate)
2.) Dont run in full screen
3.) Expand window full, but then choose scale mode so you can see everything (CTRL + S)

Its now about 98% the height it would be normally and i can use both screens w/o the annoying move.

I've discovered that remmina always move the full screen to the monitor which has more wide resolution configured.

Please solve this..

If you ever go full screen, Remmina remembers, and because the hover-bar doesn't always show (with this bug), it can be difficult to figure out how to get out of full screen. Here's what I did:

Remmina > Edit > Preferences:

Uncheck this option: "Remember last view mode for each connection".

After that, the closest for full-screen you can get (without experiencing this crazy behavior), is just maximizing the window.

f it is full-screen on my right-hand monitor, when it re-gains focus after I have done something else, it jumps to a different workspace.

So for me, the workaround is to simply leave the Remmina fullscreen in the left-most position of the workspace, and it will not jump between work spaces.

One thing that I didn't notice any had mentioned already. It seems that when the screen starts to jump around it will sometimes jump again after the first jump. It will jump between a couple of workplaces before finally staying in one.

Quite annoying since I would like to use the fullscreen mode.

I think the issue is that if you go fullscreen on remmina, every time you switch workspaces, it moves to the screen that has the launcher ribbon on it. I know the developers need a way to reliably produce the exact problem so I'll see if I can narrow it down.
