A little better but still not perfect > http://i.imgur.com/ZCFDX.png
the same part . just try to create a 60x60 circle in the logo. it isnt possible. it always looks like an oval

Well yes, as it turns out the reference logo is already not forming a proper circle, so since the splash artwork uses thickened gears the misplacement remains.

So, I am going to consider this fixed, the present version approaches a prefect circle though it won't ever be one. The correct solution is to fix the official logo and then redo the splash artwork accordingly, which is out of scope for kubuntu-default-settings.

I committed a new version which is as close to a circle as it gets and should be fine for updating 12.04. Please verify.

The deviation is still not gone, but considering the graphic is 106px on a center gradient background I doubt it to be noticeable.

Though I must admit I am not particularly with it... now the spatial distance between the corner edges of the circle parts is off (i.e. if you look at left to top and left to bottom - also see attached image where the top rectangle is the distance path to path of left and top and the bottom one is from left to bottom). Suggestions welcome.

This bug was fixed in the package kubuntu-default-settings - 1:12.10ubuntu1

---------------
kubuntu-default-settings (1:12.10ubuntu1) quantal; urgency=low

  * Make new splash logo artwork form a proper (round) circle (LP: #981898)
  * Import plymouth-theme-kubuntu-text from plymouth source package.
Since plymouth has no epoch this is a no-brainer (LP: #1005512)
  * Change plymouth-theme-kubuntu-text from arch any to all (only contains
a config, but no binary data)
  * Set name of our default Plasma activity to desktop. This does not
introduce a new string as Desktop is also the name upstream uses, so
localization is already present (LP: #1004917)
  * Set battery and wireless plasma widget key bindings (opening power
    management and networkmanagement respectively)
  * Refactor keybinding code in plasma default layout to be reusable and
    scale better for future endeavors
  * Don't activate date by default in plasma as discussed on ML -> no
strong consensus whether we should have it so go with what upstream
    has
