BOSS(Bharat Operating System Solutions) is an Indian Version of Linux distribution developed by C-DAC, Chennai for enhancing the use of Free / Open Source Software in the country.
Made specifically for the Indian environment, it consists of a pleasing Desktop environment coupled with Indian language support and other packages that are most relevant for use in the Indian government domain. This is built based on the Debian distibution and using the Debian Graphical Installer. The desktop version of BOSS v1.0, has been released in the month of January 2007 and we are planning for the server version of BOSS v1.1 to be released in April month of 2007. Subsequent versions will support the educational domain as well.
