Bug Description

For hardware pack:

http://snapshots.linaro.org/precise/hwpacks/lt-panda-x11-base/69/hwpack_linaro-lt-panda-x11-base_20120523-69_armhf_supported.tar.gz

with ubunti image:

http://snapshots.linaro.org/precise/images/ubuntu-desktop/179/linaro-precise-ubuntu-desktop-20120525-179.tar.gz

The Audio record & playback doesn't work. Plugging in a microphone, then launch the sound recorder in ubuntu, the audio wave can be observed when speaking, but after record it, finally hear nothing from playback, whatever playing back in sound recorder or rhythmbox, and whatever save as "ogg" or "wav" file.

However, using rhythmbox to play a normal "mp3" music file works well.

For Panda 4460 board, 3.5mm audio input failure is observed on following images:

What is the audio output method you're using? I just did the same test with 4460 and it finished fine.

My setup:
1 - Loopback cable from jack out to jack in
2 - Open audio preferences application and select jack as default output
3 - Open Rhythmbox and play a radio
4 - Open sound recorder and record the sound
5 - Open audio preferences application and select hdmi as default output
6 - Play the recorded sound on the hdmi output

@Ricardo, The audio over HDMI now works well, but over 3.5mm Jack still doesn't work. After I switched from HDMI to 3.5mm Jack from sound setting, I can't hear a thing. To avoid mistake, I also swap the port from one to another, but doesn't work either.

For the input, there is no response in the sound settings "input" section, whatever I speak to my microphone or simply kick it.

My board is Panda 4430, it should work if your Panda 4460 works well.

All above observed on hardware pack:

http://snapshots.linaro.org/precise/hwpacks/lt-panda-x11-base/163/hwpack_linaro-lt-panda-x11-base_20120708-163_armhf_supported.tar.gz

with ubuntu rootfs image:

http://snapshots.linaro.org/precise/images/ubuntu-desktop/287/linaro-precise-ubuntu-desktop-20120714-287.tar.gz

For sound settings, on "Input" section, there are only 1 option - 3.5mm headset playback & capture, and it doesn't work.

using regular microphone is known to 'not work' on Panda, see http://omappedia.org/index.php?title=PandaBoard_FAQ&oldid=16221#I_am_not_able_to_record_Audio_using_Mic-in.3F.

i don't have all the low level details on this issue, but it's a board issue, not a s/w issue. can you try with line in instead of mic?

Audio output works well, but input doesn't work. My plug is a standard 3 parts model. The headset is Logitech H110:

http://www.logitech.com/en-za/webcam-communications/internet-headsets-phones/stereo-headset-h110

It has 2 standard 3.5mm plugs, one for earphone, another one for microphone. I also have a separated microphone, it's Somic DM-021:

http://www.somic-elec.com/product/20100410/122.html

Unfortunately, neither one works. I don't have audio cable with 2 male 3.5mm plugs, then I can't test the audio stream as input from another playback device. Since even I have it, it's a 3.5mm 3 parts plug too, and if normal microphone doesn't work, the audio input method should not work either.

Linaro has switched from GUI based ubuntu image to solid command line console, then this "Audio Record & Playback" test is no longer required. The status of this bug on "linaro-ubuntu" project should be changed to "Won't Fix".
