monitor resolution does not go back to 1440x900 after change

During test of kernel 3.5.0-7.7 (http://packages.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/223/builds/20088/testcases/1306/results/) I had the same problem.
This time the screen went black also when, after rebooting because the screen went black changing to resolution 1440x900, I tried to change from resolution 1280x740 (the one I found after the reboot) to resolution 1366.x768.

During test of kernel 3.5.0-8.8 (http://packages.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/223/builds/20376/testcases/1306/results/) I had the same problem.

I have this problem also with kernel 3.5.0-17.28.

if you're using the nvidia driver you might want to set the resolution using the "nvidia-settings" tool

No I have this problem with nouveau drivers.
Currently I have Ubuntu 12.10 with kernel 3.5.0-19-generic, but when I selected resolution 1152x864 just to try, I could not go back to 1440x900, when I select 1440x900 I get a black screen, the only thing I can do is reboot my PC and when I login again I still get resolution 1152x864.
This happened after I had just installed nvidia-current drivers, just for testing, and then removed them to go back to nouveau ones.

I had to install nvidia-experimental-304 drivers to get my 1440x900 resolution back.
With nouveau drivers everytime I tried to select 1440x900 I got a black screen and could not do anything than reboot my PC.

reassigning to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, since it works with the binary drivers the issue seems to be a driver one

Carla Sella, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-nouveau REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Hi Christopher,
I have Trusty installed with all updates applied.
I now can change to all resolutions and go back to the initial one without any issue.
I have nouveau drivers installed.
Should I mark this bug fixed or invalid ?
