Bug Description

There seems to be no way of getting an audio preview of files through konqueror.
After setting Local files to have previews in Konqueror settings and checking
Sound Previews in View -> Previews. I still cannot get any sound.

(Just like Bug #27954 that was rejected)

I'm using Kubuntu Feisty Fawn Beta up to date. Also tested in Edgy with no success.

Surely. It works playing with any player. I've tested mp3, ogg and wav files.

I have this working in Edgy, but I can't seem to get it to work in Feisty. I seem to recall that a package had to be installed, but I can't remember what it was. It ought to work out of the box, though.

Indeed. I solved the problem installing the libarts1-mpeglib package. It should be installed by default to have such feature.

It works for me and I don't have that package installed. It needs propriety codecs to preview MP3s and as such can't be installed by default so I am closing.

Confirming my previous report. After a clean install of Kubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 and after instalation of libxine-extracodecs that allows amarok to play mp3, konqueror audio preview doesnt work. I'm pretty sure that the package libarts1-mpeglib _needs_ to be installed to have this feature working flawlessly. It's not just about mp3's, without the package its not even possible to hear ogg files previews. So this bug isnt related only to mp3, its related to any sound format. I asked to some people to test it in #kubuntu and all of them couldnt make it work without that package. That's why i think something is wrong here.

Actually, this stuff does seem to be in main now.

Added it to the gutsy version in bzr, so we can try it out.
