I've tested with Nvidia proprietary drivers and also in Vmware, the bug is there. Enabling composite or not, doesn't make any difference.

Yep, it's present with nvidia/vmware/virtualbox, but not with other drivers.

I've tested Greybird-git in 12.04 and the problem wasn't there. Do you have any sugestion to fix this?

Ok, a new update for Shimmer-themes was released, and the title bar is back for all themes, but Greybird in particular is not perfect yet.

The title bar is misaligned from the rest of the window by a pixel :)

I atached a picture to you have a clear picture of the problem.

And thanks for the fast reponse on this issue.

Looking better, it's not a matter of misaligned title bar, it's the window border that's missing.

Greybird-compact theme is still broken, without title bar.

Blackbird theme have also missing window border.

I didn't have time to fix Greybird-compact before UI freeze unfortunately (my day also only has 24hrs), and this bug was noticed very late.

The problem is very specific, I got in touch with upstream Xfce developers because it does not occur only with shimmer-themes, but also with Xfwm4's default theme. The rendering-problem seems to be a combination of proprietary Nvidia drivers (or Vbox) and a newer version of Xorg used in Quantal. Also people from other distributions, notably Arch, have reported this.

There is a workaround to fix left* and right* sides of windows, but I will only apply (to shimmer-themes) it last minute, i.e. if it's clear that the problem can't be fixed in the real sense. Since also many other themes – apart from the ones installed by default – are affected (basically all themes that use pixmaps that are 1px wide or high), we can't "cover it up" completely with workarounds anyway...

@Paulo: Thanks for testing Quantal, noticing and reporting bugs – it's very useful for us!

Xorg bug opened: Bug #1043575 and upstream: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54168

Let's keep this one for reference, to remember to revert the workarounds when the xorg bug is fixed.

The good thing about the current workaround is that it probably even won't have to be reverted but will hopefully simply work with a fixed xorg...

Well, by simply adding 2pix window borders the problem probably is fixed and it doesn look bad, and it's easier to resize them when clicking the border, which was harder with only one pixel to click :).

Another, question that doesn't have much to do with this problem. With the drop by default of the compositor manager (very good decision), do you have any plans to add a nice background for the lower panel like the one seen here http://xubuntu.org/news/xubuntus-default-theme-gets-a-refresh-for-quantal/

I won't get into the border-width discussion now, but yes, that is the intended workaround.

The compositor is not switched off by default, but yes, we had a panel-background in our drawer but too many things on our plate in the last minute to get it fixed. Maybe we'll try to push it with a UI Freeze exception, but I guess not.

Btw, feel free to join our meetings or anything if you feel like discussing these issues or if you want to contribute to Xubuntu.

In your last meeting it was decided that compositor would be disabled in live cd. Guess that option was reverted.

Is it possible for you to upload that panel background, so I can test it?
