[nvidia-glx-new] Switching to a vt and back often makes x session unusable if compiz is running

Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Switch to a vt (ctrl-alt-f1) and back (ctrl-alt-f7). If you do it enough times, it's sure to make the x session unusuable, or at least it does here. Maybe it's the proprietary nvidia driver's fault.

Anyway, if you can get back to ctrl-alt-f1 you can kill compiz. If not, you need to hard reboot.

Does disabling sync to vblank by doing
gconftool -s /apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/sync_to_vblank-t boolean false
make any difference?

Kind of.

When I switch back to my X session with sync_to_vblank off, compiz crashes and I'm back to metacity, but it doesn't make the session unusable.
