Bug Description

Test install of quantal-desktop-amd64 20121014 (ubiquity 2.12.11)

I allocated a VM an 8G drive and tossed 8G of RAM at it. I selected automatic partitioning with LVM and LUKS. The auto partitioner then created a root partition of 2.7G which is too small to install onto, and bailed out.

15/10 17:01:31 <xnox> it works fine with 8GB drives here for me.... unless it created a (8 - 2.7G) ~= 5.3G swap. Aha. So it tried to go for 100% * RAM swap, but it had a minimum hard-code at 2.7 for / which is no longer enough.

so it sounds like this minimum needs to be ramped up in line with the requirements for a desktop system now.

Also the error message was inadequate. It starts "Some of the partitions you created are too small." which isn't accurate because I didn't create the partitions, and then goes on to talk about steps to recover. I clicked "Go Back" and then was taken to partman which displayed an error "No modifications can be made to the device Encrypted volume (vda5_crypt) for the following reasons:

In use by LVM volume group ubuntu"

and spun. At which point I was stuffed. :-)
