Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

The libgl1-mesa-glx package is broken, upgrade from edgy to feisty can't continue. All X11 packages are dependant of that package.

Thanks for your bugreport and the logs.

Did you use the nvidia driver from the nvidia website? I'm currently trying to reporduce the problem and every information what might have caused this is helpful.

Thanks,
 Michael

This bug is not related to update-manager, but to libgl1-mesa-glx.
Incidentally, it is the same bug (ie they should be merged) as:
#108449.

Hope it helps.

Glauco: the NVIDIA installer installed a few libraries which caused your problem.

please follow these steps so as to uninstall the driver.

1) stop the Xserver:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop

or (if you use Kubuntu):
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop

2) Uninstall the NVIDIA driver by typing:
cd path_to_the_NVIDIA_installer
sudo sh name_of_the_NVIDIA_installer --uninstall

then set the driver to "nv" in the Device section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
sudo nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf

3) Restart the Xserver:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start

or (if you use Kubuntu):
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start

and try to upgrade through Update Manager again:

Thanks, Alberto. I will try the workaround.
Just for info, in newer Ubuntu versions the nvidia package provided by official repositories works as supposed to be and that package is enough for me, with 3D and good performance. Tested in 3 different computers this week, when upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy.
Thanks again.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

For sure, in December I will move to Intrepid Ibex and let you know how it works.
Thanks for the support.

Hi Glauco, did you try with Intrepid ? Is it still an issue ?

Sorry, Jean-Baptiste, I forgot to reply.
The Intrepid did everything as supposed to. Upgrading Hardy with nvidia proprietary driver from repositories or the one from nvidia's website didn't affect anything, everything is working fine.
Keep up the good work and thanks for the support.
