Bug Description

Binary package hint: kopete

since rich text doesnt work with the spell checker (and i find the spell checker a lot more useful than rich text), it would be nice if there was an option to disable rich text by default. you can turn it off per chat session, and kopete will remember this, but its annoying to have to do it every time you get an IM from a new person.

Kopete serves my needs perfectly except for this one very vexing issue. Can we upgrade this to a bug? I submit that this rises above the level of "Wishlist" as rich text being on causes "buggy" behavior for users such as myself; Whenever I neglect to turn it off when IMing a new contact they receive very oddly formatted messages with large blank spaces around them. This is becoming such an issue for me that I'm actively seeking out other alternatives.

The KDE4 version of Kopete has this option. To enable it, go to Settings -> Configure... Then go to the "Chat Window" section. In the colors and fonts tab you can select to disable rich text.
