Bug Description

I used the alternate install CD for PPC + Playstation3 of the final 7.04 release. Whenever something animated is shown on the screen (videos with totem, TheGoom visualizations in Totem or Rhythmbox etc), the performance is very low - I would estimate something around 5-10 frames per second.

I had no such problem when using YDL 5, so I guess that the video hardware is capable of higher frame rates. I assume that the problem is caused either by the video driver or the overall X configuration, but I lack the skills to determine the exact location of the problem.

The problem doesn't seem to be related to the screen resolution - I had the exact same performance when using 1080p and 720p resolutions.

Same problem here with Feisty @ 720p. Seems pretty odd as the PS3 doesn't seem to be unresponsive in other areas of the screen (as if it is struggling), just a slow fps for video and TheGoom visualisation.

Video performance seems to be ok within VLC. I was playing video's within Totem previously.

Work is being done on improving video playback.

Until the optimized Xv-driver is ready, I've put up a page on how to get an optimized video output in mplayer (with debs) on http://linux.yes.nu/PS3Ubuntu

This should enable you to play most but not h.264 smoothly in 1080p.

Video performance is affected very much by the fact that there is no direct rendering available on Linux when running on PS3. Closing this one.
