Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

The update manager tells me I should attach files. Alas, there is no file attachment feature at this website. This might help:

Please make sure that you have got enough free memory and that your swap partition is enabled. How much memory do you have in your computer?

You can attach files at the bottom of this page.

Cheers,

Sebastian

Sebastian,

The good news is that, on reboot, feisty fawn came up OK. The installer
crash was somehow trivial, I guess. To answer your questions:

1) 1GB of RAM
2) Swap is OK.
3) No, there was no place to upload the requested files as I entered my
bug. Perhaps if I hack around at your web site I might find something,
but I'm not interested in that. As I respond to this email, I'm not sure
which files I should attach, and since I am now 100 miles from the
computer in question anyway, I have nothing to attach. It would make
sense to have a file upload feature attached to the bug report entry web
page.

So far so good . . .

Here is a feature request: I'd like up do the same adept-managed upgrade
to an Edgy Eft installation on an external USB drive that I carry with
my laptop. Of course, this involves modifying files
/root/boot/configThis, /root/boot/configThat,
/root/boot/LooksLikeAConfigButDontTouch, etc., to point at the external
USB image. I spent a weekend on the problem a few months ago, and
succeeded in getting the external boot to work. But if memory serves,
there were many places to take a wrong turn -- it took a whole weekend
to stop making wrong turns, after all -- so I suggest that the
adept-upgrader should be aware of these config files and not overwrite
them. Life is too short to relearn arcane file naming/linking/pointing
conventions ever three months. :)
