It appears that kdissert, for most of its icons, depends on "kdebase" package.

apt-get install kdebase solves this issue. The price to pay is useless installation of around 20 packages on which kdebase depends.

According to the author's web page, kdissert is being replaced by a new program. Confirming based on the kde.org report. The X Errors are not related. They are due to Ubuntu's X Org being configured for display devices not installed in your system. This is nothing to worry about.

Perhaps we could fix this unsatisfied dependency ?

For good use and understanding of kdissert, which will only be replaced by semantik as part of KDE4 (so maybe in about 6 months !), you need to add kdebase dependency (which in turns depends on 20 packages or so for a total of 60 Mb ...).

Low importance is ok (may be newbies wouldn't find the workaround), but I think waiting KDE4 is a bit long (maybe patch is one liner adding a dependency to the package).

I can post the workaround method if anyone happen to get the same, please would you tell me _where_ to do so usefully on the net ?

Why not post the workaround method here? I like kdissert, and have the same problem :-).

... which is also solved by this work-around is that when documents are attached, the "launch link" function fails. Now that I've done the sudo etc above this now works fine.
