Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

I'm a newbie to Thunderbird, but am lovin' it. Way better than MS OE...

However, after using it for a couple of days, it started showing that I have one more unread email than I really have. As soon as I start up Thunderbird, it plays the new message sound, shows the icon in my sys tray, and shows one unread next to Inbox. If I actually do have some email, it shows one more than I really have.

I have even moved all of my emails to another folder, but Inbox shows 1 Unread, even when absolutely empty....

Is there an easy way to fix this?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Kerry

Try to right-click the folder and choose "compact".

That did it!

It showed several messages that weren't there (or visible anyway), and I was able to delete them.

Thanks Dennis for the prompt and correct answer!

Did thunderbird crashed in the past?

Didn't crash that I'm aware of...I did accidentally let my laptop run out of battery, and Firefox gave a crash message. Maybe Thunderbird had been running, too, but I don't know.

Either way, the suggestion to click on Compact did the trick.

Thanks again!

After the update of Thunderbird 1.5.0.14ubu (Feisty) I had the same bug today as described by Kerry.
The workaround of Dennis solved the problem.

i also had 13 unread messages, however the problem was solved by using the 'folder-compact' process and it showed a lot of messages which i had read earlier and deleted it but some how showed up again! this has been a frequent problem only with gmail folder.

Here's my 2 cents worth. I found that the emails that get moved to my Junkmail folder because of a filter I have set, still show as unread in the inbox. I assume tha't because they are moved without being "read".
