Dovecot is unsupportedly-old, and remains old in Raring

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

dovecot is at 1:2.1.7-7 in Debian, with no newer version in Debian experimental. Since Ubuntu generally follows Debian, to get a newer version we need the newer dovecot packaged in Debian first.

It may be that Debian lags upstream right now because of the current Debian freeze for wheezy's release.

It is very unlikely that Raring will see any updates before release.

If there are any severe bugs, please file them in Launchpad, identify the fixes and follow steps 1 through 4 of the stable release update procedure at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure

If all updates in 2.1.8+ meet SRU policy, then it may be possible to update to this in an SRU. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#New_upstream_microreleases for details.

I appreciate you bringing this up. But since there is no action that can be taken on this specific bug now, I'm marking it as Incomplete. Please file individual bugs if you want specific issues fixed. Alternatively, please follow the instructions on the StableReleaseUpdate page to complete a justification for a full microrelease update for dovecot in this bug, and then change this bug's status back to New.

I'm clearing old bugs on Dovecot before the next merge.
This here is really outdated and I have merged recent dovecot versions every cycle for about the last two years - so we should be as current as we can be.
