Interesting find, I'll check if I have the same warning on precise. Could this be the fault of the DP-to-HDMI adapter?

This is alsainfo from the same laptop, with the same DP/HDMI adapter and the same screen as reported above, this time running Ubuntu 12.04: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=05028563518fe47e02249fe0a1fbad8b5f786386

I have a similar problem, but not with HDMI. The bug I submitted may be a duplicate, but I don't think so: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1190700

I had a similar problem (clipping sound in 13.04, but not in 12.04) and I upgraded the drivers from nouveau to the nvidia drivers (from additional drivers)
