Bug Description

logwatch 7.4.0+svn20120502rev103-1ubuntu1

Description: Ubuntu 13.04
Release: 13.04

Smartmontools/smartd are logging to syslog. However, the LogFile directive in /usr/share/logwatch/dist.conf/services/smartd.conf is

LogFile = messages

This causes smartd log entries never to be reported by logwatch. Instead it should be:

LogFile = syslog

I also attached a patch.

This is still unresolved for 14.04 (trusty) I'm using. Please, apply the patch - it is simple, annoying and waiting too long for resolving...

Note that Debian fixed this in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=295234 to look at daemon.log instead of messages (in 2005?)

That fix has been in Ubuntu for a long time, it seems too (I think since Hardy, but I might be misreading the changelog). I just spun up a Trusty VM and smartd.conf contains:

LogFile =
LogFile = daemon

So I think this bug can be closed?
