Bug Description

When opening multiple tabs from different feeds the display screen freezes. The animated mouse pointer runs in animated mode. The percent of down load indicator locks at about 70 to 80%: But Foxfire stops talking to the modem.
I can sometimes still close the program using the animated curser. Other times I have to wait for the program to solve what ever is holding it up enough to produce the normal curser.
I have been using this for six months with it working perfectly, and now it is failing even at three tabs.

Thank you Tw Moran for your report,

Can you indicate some examples that cause this behavior, to check if this issue is reproducible.

I am on dial up so things run slow. I have been updating at least once
a week. Everything has run perfectly. I was ready to upgrade to Ubuntu
7.04 but on dial up would have taken almost two days. On long down
loads, my server some times drops the connection.
I sent for and received the new Ubuntu disk and began to do an
install. Following the instructions. But it kept saying that if I
proceeded I would wipe out may date: So I quit the install. It is from
that install abort that problems began. I can not get updates on
anything. I get an error massage saying that I can't get an
authorization lock.
Firefox has be come slow and jerky in any use. When opening tabs in
RSS feed the program will seize up at some number of tabs. The number
varies each time I try to use it. Some times I can have 5 tabs, other
times it locks during the loading of the first tab.
I am not a computer person, let alone UNIX. I have a good friend in
New Hampshire who is my supper user. I am in western NY. So I have very
limited knowledge as to how to trouble shoot my boxes. I have one older
box with just UNIX, that serves as my gateway/networking and this box as
a desktop. I use an external modem so I can see when a program is or is
not trying to access the net.
When Firefox freezes: the down load indicator bar is showing an
incomplete down load of the RSS page. But the modem shows no attempt to
transmit or receive data.
As long as I don't use the RSS function, I can use Firefox fully. So
far it is only the RSS feeds that lock up the computer.
The curser will show the animation of the spinning dots. As long as
it is in that mode, I am completely frozen out. When it drops back to
the normal curser I can exit the program: But nothing on the screen will
respond to the curser movement or any button click.
It will however seem to save some of the mouse clicks: as when the
animation quits, and I have only a partial freeze, the last mouse click
will be carried out.
It is weird, You would have to see it. I would let you into the box
like my super user can, but the slop pipe makes it really a painful
experience.
I am suppose to get a DSL in a week, At that time I will try to do
the 7.04 upgrade on line rather then from the install disk. It would
have been nice if you had offered a choice of two disks, one for a total
install and one for upgrade.

 Sincerely yours
  Tw Moran

An up date, My system thinks the CPU is running at 100%. I would think
the RSS feed drives it over the edge. How do I clear the CPU?

CPU was being driven to 100: a program called apt-get was running at 70
to 85 % of CPU. Turning it off solved the RSS lock up

Please file a bug against apt to find out why and maybe fix the high CPU usage.
