Bug Description

bzr-svn makes svn more pleasant - I think that the bzr-svn package
should have an "Enhances: svn" header.

 affects /ubuntu/bzr-svn

Is this really correct? Does bzr-svn enhance svn, or is it a transition tool to migrate to bzr. I'm doubtful of this change and I don't think it's worth carrying and Ubuntu diff for. I'd suggest that the reporter should file a bug in Debian with the patch and see if they are willing to pick it up. Other opinions?

I would rather say it should be "Enhances: bzr". Also, it's probably better for this patch to go to the pkg-bazaar debian list rather than here as we maintain the packages in both distributions.

I think that makes sense. I've unsubscribed UUS and am marking this invalid. For the original reporter, I'd suggest you file a bug in Debian if you want to pursue this.

Huh? Since when did we start fixing thing by saying 'go to debian'.

As for
"Is this really correct? Does bzr-svn enhance svn, or is it a transition
tool to migrate to bzr. I'm doubtful of this change and I don't think

bzr-svn enhances both bzr and svn - it certainly improves what you can
do with svn as well with bzr.

with respect to the packaging list, thats fine - but this is the
bugtracker for *ubuntu*, so its entirely appropriate for bugs to live
here and be tracked/managed where they can be found.

Sure, but when the package maintainer says they maintain the package for both in Debian, it makes sense to fix it in Debian. I won't fight you over the bug status, but I'm certainly not going to uploade the fix.

So, time for meta-discussion then.

I think the following applies -
 - if we are in UVF then uploading within ubuntu is appropriate.
 - We should not redirect *bug reporters* to Debian, if we decide within
Ubuntu that the right way to fix a bug X is to open it in Debian, thats
completely fine: *we*, the Ubuntu developer working on the fix, should
open the bug in debian, and link that to the Ubuntu bug in Malone.

Closing the bug in Ubuntu just because it needs to be open in Debian too
is harmful for several reasons:
 - the existing state that has been built up about the issue is lost
 - the fact the bug still exists in Ubuntu is lost - you are encouraging
dups to be filed.
 - the person that filed the bug is likely not familiar with Debian, and
thus this is a negative experience for them - rather than dealing with
the issue we are saying 'no, not us, go over there' - and thats unfair
to the person filing the bug.

Sorry, I don't see any changes on the bzr-svn branch... I'm using
sftp://bzr.debian.org/bzr/pkg-bazaar/bzr-svn/unstable/

Cheers,

Dammit, I forgot to push. A good occasion to try your rebase plugin and
actually push my two revisions :)

You added (#122073) behind the line I added (Enhances: bzr), but this bug report is about adding Enhances: subversion. Could you add a separate changelog entry for the "Enhances: subversion" bit?

Cheers,

Jelmer
