Bug Description
As discussed during our sprint, the "meta-data.d" directory should be renamed to "annotations.d" to avoid confusion of terms.

Small note: The merged branch also fixes #1226597 and #1226604:
- The metadata keys in the message exchange format is changed to "annotations"
- The cloud (EC2) metadata is deactivated. We will transfer that with a proper message in a future release.
