On my Sony TX2 sound works with the internal speakers but not with speakers connected to the front connector.

Is anyone looking at this bug - I now have gutsy release but have never managed to resolve this!

It works fine for me in Gutsy but not with a self compiled 2.6.24-rc2 kernel. Was there an Upstream fix? Where can I get the patch?

Works fine with the 2.6.24-rc2 kernel too. It was a configuration bug.

I have the same problem as Steve, another thing I noticed is that when I run alsamixer, I cannot turn the master volume up. It is not muted, but I can't turn it up. It's weird.

Robert - while you are experiencing the same symptom as Steve unless you have the same hardware it would be best if you opened a separate bug report and include the same information we requested of him. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducable with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the actively developed kernel. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

I was getting no sound after I dist-upgraded to Hardy, until I disconnected the external speakers from the headphone jack, and suddenly the internal speakers started playing.

Seems the headphone detection mutes the internal speakers but doesn't outputs on the headphone jack, unless you check the Headphone option on the volume control app (which in turn mutes the internal speakers).

Also, I get no output on the line out jack.

It unfortunately appears that this bug is not yet resolved. The Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha2 is scheduled for release today. It will appear at the following when available: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha2 . It contains the actively developed 2.6.26 Ubuntu kernel. It would be great if you could test this upcoming release via a LiveCD and verify if the issue still exists. If so, please include the appropriate debugging information as outlined at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems . Thanks in advance.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.
