Bug Description

Binary package hint: keepassx

The KeepassX application should be associated with .kbd files so that you can just double click the file to open the password safe

I presume that ".kbd" is a typo? It should be ".kdb" (KeePass DataBase)

If you wish GNOME opens ".kdb" files with KeePassX follow the next steps:
1. Right click on the .kdb file
2. Chose "Open with other Application..." (A screen titled "Open with" should open now)
3. Click on "Use a custom command" (A textbox should appear under "Use a custom command")
4. Type in the text: '/usr/bin/keepass' (Don't forget the ' signs)
5. GNOME should associate ".kdb" with KeePassX

Note: Sometimes GNOME doesn't get the hint and you have to do the above several times.

Yes, you are right about the .kdb extension.

About your suggestion. That is exactly what I did when I found the problem originally. The reason I opened the bug was because I had to follow the steps you just described, it didn't just work right the first time (when other applications seem to).

Oh, I see your point. You wish that the ".kdb" extension is associated with KeePassX [u]on installation[u].

I can confirm your submission and I also suggest that the status is set to "Wishlist".

Marking invalid for xubuntu-default-settings. keepassx should probably register the mime type.

Marking invalid for kubuntu-default-settings too. keepassx should do this.

Hi, keepassx 0.3.3 has just been uploaded to Intrepid. Would you be able to test this on the latest development release, to confirm whether or not this has been fixed? Intrepid 8.10 beta will be released on Oct 2, and will be available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. It would be greatly appreciated if you could confirm this!

This is still present in v0.3.3. I will fix it upstream in v0.4.0.

To my surprise KeePassX 0.3.3 can't open kdb file I created in Windows. How do I get around that?

Correction: I mean to say it can't open KDBX file which was created with KeePass 2.0.6 in Windows.

Use KeePass 1.x or you can try running KeePass 2 on Linux using Mono (I don't know how well it works).
