It looks like unity-control-center uses package kit to determine whether or not updates are available, but I'm not 100% certain.

affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) → unity-control-center (Ubuntu)
Changed in unity-control-center (Ubuntu):
milestone: none → trusty-updates
importance: Undecided → High
status: New → Triaged

unity-control-center does use package kit to determine this - is the package kit interface of apt-daemon wrong or should it be using something else?

The phased-updates implementation is currently only available in update-manager. Back when it was discussed the rational was that users of advanced tools like apt/aptdcon would still get their normal upgrades.

So in order to fix this it needs to get ported to aptdaemon - what mechanism is unity-control-center using? The PK session or system interface?

"System details page not aware of phased-updates". I want to add, maybe
this will help, Update-manager found no new package for upgrade as i said
but when i used synaptic manager and try "mark all upgrade" it detected
some packages for upgrade. After upgrading using synaptic manager, system
settings was reporting "System is up to date".

Thanks

Hi!

I might add my observations as well.

- Added VLC to repository then proceeded on doing "Go to system settings > details page. On bottom right corner, (checking for updates)" = system up to date.

- sudo apt-get update via Terminal then proceeded on doing "Go to system settings > details page. On bottom right corner, (checking for updates)" = install updates.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Added qBittorrent to repository then proceeded on doing "Go to system settings > details page. On bottom right corner, (checking for updates)" = system up to date.

- sudo apt-get update Terminal then proceeded on doing "Go to system settings > details page. On bottom right corner, (checking for updates)" = install updates.

Thank you
