Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

After recent upgrade of openoffice.org from 2.2.1~SOMETHING to 2.3.0~src680m224-1ubuntu2 OpenOffice.org Writer hangs with 100% CPU on one of my documents after a couple of minutes after its opening. It's a huge 500 pages 1,3 Mb .odt saved from .doc (however, it crashes on original .doc too). It worked fine with all previous versions in Feisty and Gutsy, though. It might be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/127944

Attachement will follow.

It is not related to 127944, that bug has been fixed.

It takes about 45s for the document to open on my laptop and it is not hung during that time the document is just very large and complicated. You claimed it worked fine with the previous versions in Feisty/Gutsy, how long did it take to open on those versions? Or were you saying it crashes after it has properly opened the file a few minutes later?

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, I was saying that it hangs _after_ it it has properly opened the file. And the time period between a finished loading and a hang is not always the same, I don't know why. Sometimes it is just a minute after doing completely nothing, sometimes I'm able to do some editing, save it, and do some editing again and then it hangs (so it hangs after five minutes running or so). However it hangs *every* time I'm working with the document. Open it and just leave it running, or edit some text and then save it; a little patience and you might be able to reproduce it too.

When launched from a terminal there is not a single debug message out there, thus I have no idea what's going on completely.

As I have mentioned, it worked fine on 2.2.1 (and it works fine for me on Win OOo 2.2.1 (via wine)).

Hi

I'm experiencing the same problem on Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64, OO 2.3.0. When I try to click on a text box in Impress, soffice.bin takes up 100% CPU and hangs.

I have discovered that this occurs only when pasting a list of data I copied from another file into a text box.

I've attached the presentation file I'm working on. The problem is on page 4, which was created by copying a list of data from a pdf, and then pasted into an empty text box. If one clicks on the text, the application hangs. If one clicks on any other of text boxes, its fine.

The file is 238K, starting up time is reasonable. Using java 5.

Final 2.4.0 release is rc6 (OpenOffice.org 2.4 Release Candidate 6 (build OOH680_m12)) - please update the package as rc2 had many problems. See:

I cannot reproduce on Hardy Beta (U)OOo 2.4~rc2 (newly installed and fully updated) on a 1GHZ 384MB machine.

However *could* reproduce on:

OpenOffice.org 2.4.0 Final (standard from OOo)
and
StarOffice8/Release 9 (OOo 2.3.1)
on a 2.4GHZ 1GB machine.

After closing I noticed that o3totxt continued to run and maxed out the CPU until I killed the job from the command line. After removing o3totxt (which also removes Tracker) I can now open the file and keep it running with no problems on the 2.4GHZ 1GB machine.

Žygimantas Beručka: can you remove o3totxt (via Synaptic) and see if you get the same results?
