Bug Description

Binary package hint: knetworkconf

Distribution: kubuntu feisty 7.04 amd64
Package: knetworkconf-3.5.6-0ubuntu1
Note that most probably this also affects other architectures and versions.

Setting domain name in kcm_knetworkconfmodule (Internet & Network -> Network Settings) on the domain name system tab, which in turn adds options `domain YOURDOMAIN.COM' and `search YOURDOMAIN.COM' to /etc/resolv.conf does not work with network-manager installed (which is the default now). network-manager rewrites /etc/resolv.conf every few minutes and the changes are lost.

If dhcp client gets domain-name from dhcp server or if you supersede domain-name in dhclient.conf network-manager will set the option `search' but not `domain' therefore I consider it rather a workaround instead of a solution.

Confirmed. ISC dhcpd config:

option domain-name "some.domain";
option domain-name-servers 192.168.1.1;
option routers 192.168.1.1;
ddns-update-style interim;
allow-client-updates;

And the resulting resolv.conf:

# generated by NetworkManager, do not edit!

search some.domain

nameserver 192.168.1.1

I can confirm that the domain name is correctly set on other Gentoo hosts.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta or later?

knetworkconf is completely busted (and not user visible for that reason) so it is impossible to tell whether or not it would work.

Since knetworkconf is totally busted and seemingly unmaintained upstream, we are removing knetworkconf from distribution.
