Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

When editing an url on the addressbar I'm unable to use the usual key combination as:
- ctrl-backspace to delete the last word
- ctrl-rightarrow and ctrl-leftarrow to skip between words

What happens instead is that with ctrl-backspace *all* the url is erased, and ctrl-arrows only enables me to skip to start and end of the line, in fact acting as the "home" and "end" keys.

Firefox on windows instead dows not exhibit this problem.

I agree.

The Firefox key behaviour is NOT the standard Linux editing behaviour, and my FF acts exactly as Alessandro decribed.

Can you please give a step by step instructions to reproduce this? What version of firefox is this on and what version of ubuntu?

Changed in firefox:
assignee: nobody → mozilla-bugs
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

This happens on all versions of firefox on all released version of Ubuntu up to Gutsy. For the record firefox is version 2.0.0.6+1-0ubuntu1.

Anyway the fix is really easy: simply set layout.word_select.stop_at_punctuation to true in firefox.
