Bug Description

Binary package hint: kopete

In Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5, after configuring MSN messenger, Kopete connects okay as all contacts come down. However, when trying to send a message, the message does not get sent and the following appears in the bubble window 'The following message has not been sent correctly so the Connection is closed.'

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

This bug is still there now in Kubuntu 8.04 H.H. You send a chat message, the Kopete icon begins to spin, and then it states, The following message has not been sent connection ...... you are now marked offline all in grey. This is only happening with MSN, is fine with AIM and Yahoo messengers

Could you run Kopete from the terminal and try to get an output when it freezes?

As Kopete works okay both with Yahoo and AIM, I fail to see how this will make any difference, it is obviously something to do with the way Kopete connects to MSN. Anyway, my hotmail address is not for MSN messenger but for Windows Live messenger and although it should work alright in either. I can also add that I did successfully use Kopete in another distro with no problems, so it is the way Kopete is setting MSN connection up.
I also have to alter it when I set it up have to adjust the HTTP settings to use.

Runing on kubuntu here, I am having the same problem. Connection to msn drops after a few seconds, and if I try to send a message to one of my contacts, i get the message:
The following message has not been sent correctly (Connection closed):

when i run kopete from the console, I get this when it disconnects:
kopete (msn): WARNING: [void MSNSocket::slotSocketError(int)] Error: 17 (remote host closed connection)

Let me know if you know further information/testing on fixing this.

I get the same error, but only when i am out of the house on my wireless.

at home Yahoo works fine, But while away using another open connection I get "remote host closed connection" error 17.

Not trying to jump your Bug report, just saying it isn't just MSN, at least for me.

I have Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron on my laptop and finally I managed to install the webcam but unfortunately Pidgin has no support for video chat so I searched the net and I found Kopete. I instaled, configured the account, on Yahoo messenger, and tried to connect, it connects but after 2 seconds it disconects with the following message:

17 remote host closed connection

I am using a wireles conection that has a small problem, at startup is not working, i have to plug out and plug in the PCMCI wireles card and after that is ok.
So, to resume:

OS Ubuntu 8.04 HH
Software: Kopete 0.50.1 (KDE 4.0.3)
Internet connection : wireless on Asus Lan PC Card WL-107G
Problem: disconect at 1 second after connection with the following mesage: 17 remote host closed connection

Your issue would most likely be different. If you are still experiencing this bug in Kubuntu Intrepid I would advise you to file a separate bug report.

@others
Is this bug still reproducible with KDE 4.1? (Testing with KDE 4.2 would be great, too)
