[ENHANCEMENT] displayconfig-gtk should allow to change gamma settings

Bug Description

displayconfig-gtk should allow to change monitor gamma settings, probably by interfacing with "xgamma". Three sliders, by default linked so they move together like most of The GIMP spinboxes, should enable setting red, green and blue gamma correction.

UI proposal:

Gamma correction:
R [----------|--------------] --+
G [----------|--------------] --8
B [----------|--------------] --+

Where the "8" is a chain like The GIMP ones.
Changes should be live.

The problem is the integration into the user interface and not the slider themselves. I am thinking about adding a colours button that opens a sub dialog.

by the way the backend already fully supports changeing gamma value. it is a frontend onyl issue.

I think this would be a great opportunity to include loading of ICM/ICC profiles too with just a small textbox and browse button. You can use the open source "xcalib" software to do this for any display # and screen #.

Thank you for reporting this bug and for your efforts to make Ubuntu better. As Xorg has improved this past year, an unfortunate side effect of these improvements is that it has rendered several design assumptions in displayconfig-gtk obsolete. So, starting with Hardy we are no longer putting displayconfig-gtk forth as a primary configuration tool, and are putting our development focus into the Screen Resolution applet. As a result, we do not plan to fix this bug and thus are closing it.

For configuring gamma correction, you may want to re-file this against the appropriate GNOME Preferences or Administration applet.
