Incoming Photo MMS from T-Mobile includes <smil> in message text

Bug Description
Running image #u144 on mako, I confirmed that MMS message can indeed be received on a phone with an AT&T SIM ( see bug #1324157 ).
That said, when the message was displayed in the messaging-app, the text "<smil>" was displayed, even though no text was sent with the photo.
