Bug Description

Binary package hint: f-spot

Hi everyone,

I'm running up-to-date gutsy and found an annoying bug. It happens most times, but not every time. Pretty funny.

It works like this:

* start f-spot
* I open up my picture database
* right click -> modify in the gimp works like expected
* I does not matter if you close the gimp or not
* right click on a picture -> modify in the gimp -> nothing happens

The last step may happen or not happen, depending on the mood of my computer. But most times he is in a bad mood.

I can open the picture every time f-spot is freshly restarted. The CLI gives no special output.

By the way: it is not an issue of the gimp, because it behaves the same when you choose eog instead of the gimp.

Thank you all very much,
Harald

Thanks for reporting the bug. I Tried quite a lot of times but unable to get the behavior you have mentioned. I am not sure what more info I could gather, but it would be helpful if you could provide in the details like what other apps were running in the background, etc. Thank you once again for helping us make ubuntu better.

Ok, thank you Aanjhan for dealing with that topic so fast. I've got news to tell:

First of all, I forgot to tell that I'm using XFCE as desktop environment.

Secondly, while reproducing this behaviour another time (which works!) I experienced that this got something to do with the way of selecting the menu entry! Right click on the picture and selecting the entry by keyboard (in opposition to using the mouse completly!) changes everything: It works every time.

This time I even build it from source by myself. No difference.

I also add the file you asked for. It is the output of "ps asx".

Please tell me if you need more info or whatever!

Thanks from
Harald

Hi there
Could you please specify the version of the software involved you have installed. for instance the version of gimp, f-spot, eog, compiz if the desktop effects are activated, libmono, etc.
Also it'll be of great help if you could launch f-spot from a xterm or gnome-terminal and attach the log of the application when this happens.

if you instead of left-click over "GIMP Image Editor", do a right-click, can the same behaviour be observed?.

maybe this could be related to bug #121796

Good evening,

first of all I'd like to apologize that I'm writing back that late. Simply didn't have time last week.

Secondly, with today's latest version, this bug seems to belong to the past. Every time I'm trying to open a picture with en external program it's a success!

So I think this one can be closed ....

Thanks a lot,
Harald
