Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

It looks like this functionality would best be sent upstream, if it is not fixed and has not been reported there already.

Unless Ubuntu has a specific blueprint goal that involves adding ping6 support, I don't think it would be appropriate to patch this support into Ubuntu directly without upstream support, due to the additional maintenance burden.

The next step to take here is to check if the latest upstream has ping6 support, if a bug has been opened upstream to patch this support, and if not, then to file one.

Hi Robie,

this is a ubuntu specific bug because ipv6 support is added by backuppc_3.3.0-1ubuntu1.diff.gz
Unless ping6-variable is defined hosts which have an ipv4 and ipv6 dns record will fail!

See LP #782890

Best,
Alex

Thanks. I see IPv6 references in the diff between 3.3.0-1 and 3.3.0-1ubuntu1, but these don't seem to be mentioned in the changelog.

@racb: any chance to merge this patch into the next package release for LTS?

This bug was fixed in the package backuppc - 3.3.2-2

---------------
backuppc (3.3.2-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * There are no logs to chown upon a first installation, so don't try to
chown them. (Fixes issue found by piuparts.)
  * Avoid recursive chown to /etc/backuppc, just chown /etc/backuppc and
all files in it. By default it has no subdirectories.
  * Update line numbers in debian/config.pl.diff.
