Hi Patrice,

Looks interesting, and in Ubuntu we love python. Would you mind to start and UVF exception for that? See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess#head-9c768217b322f8567d24d91647eaf0a256a73046 for the details.

I'm not able to do that. There are too many things that i don't know for this (java problem/big 1.2.5 backport megapatch).

Hi Patrice,

GCJ included in Gutsy already handles 1.5 Java so this is no longer a
problem. I am going to package the latest pydev as soon as I find
enough time for it.

What Lionel meant is to file a UVF bug (use this one), so that when we
have the package ready we can follow the UVF process and put it in
Gutsy. If you would like to help with this please take a look at the
URL Lionel provided.

So nothing has happened? No change for hardy?

A little disappointing, as the pydev version included in ubuntu hardy (1.2.5) is not dated 2006-11-01 as in http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=629622

As a workaround, you can use the eclipse update manager (it requires eclipse to be run as root for installation).

For information, pydev v1.4.x brings the support of python 2.6 and python 3.0 (py3k) which are major features :)

I haven't seen any error using the workaround described above, for now at least.

According to the wesite does the current release 1.4.2 only require:
- Eclipse 3.3 (python requires only the platform release, and jython also requires JDT)
- Python 2.3.x or 2.4.x
- Java 1.4 or higher

Keeping the eclipse-pydev package up to date enables rolling out eclipse pydev developement environments to non-root users. Please consider updating this package.
