links in "About GNOME" do not work

Bug Description

If you click a link in the GNOME about-dialog, it just pops up a message telling
that it couldn't launch the default command.

Error popup:
Could not open the address "http://www.gnome.org/about/": There was an error launching the default action command associated with this location.

works fine here. Have you configured your preferred browser ? Does "gnome-open
http://www.gnome.org" work ?

Ok... Setting browser to firefox in prefered apps solved the problem... Don't
know how it got unset... Cheers.

Re-Opening: I've just experienced the same problem, but normally use KDE.

I think the error message has to be improved.

In my case I had swiftfox configured as a user defined browser, but removed it lately.

What version of Ubuntu do you use? Does opening an url in other GNOME sotfware works correctly? Could you describe the steps to trigger the bug?

This will only fail, if you have an invalid browser configured in your gnome "Preferred Applications", e.g. /usr/local/bin/swiftfox, which would not exist anymore.

Then to reproduce it:
1. start gnome-about
2. click on a link therein

I would bet that other applications are similarly affected, but have not tried explicitly.

My point is only, that the error message needs improvement, so people can easily solve this and do not have to file a bug about it.. :)
