Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunderbird

... Thunderbird segfaults when reading mail

When reading mail in Thunderbird, I am experiencing regular segfaults. There is no real pattern to which mails it barfs over, although certain HTML e-mails makes it crash every time.

Try running Thunderbird from gdb (the debugger). You may need to install it:- "sudo apt-get install gdb"

Then do "gdb thunderbird" and wait until the crash.

In gdb type "bt" to get a backtrace and post that.

Ah, well. I found the cause of this.

It was due to the fact that I had the enigmail extension installed without having GPG installed. An easy fix :)

Scratch that. The problem persists even after uninstalling enigmail.

It looks on first inspection as if the two issues are not related, judging by the vast differences in the backtraces.

Do a launchpad search first for already-reported bugs that might be the same, and if you can't find any likely candidates file a new report and copy the backtrace info into it.

Thank you Mikkel Høgh for submitting this report.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions
on [1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during
the crash and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if
this crash is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is
very important for us to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

H. Montoliu

Yes, please fill up a new bug report, we prefer a new report for each
crash; later we will decide if the problem has been reported before or
not.

Thank you lucasvo in advance.
