Bug Description

The more recent (after August 1st) revision of v4l-dvb is required to correctly support the Nova-T 500 duel tuner DVB card. Older versions of v4l-dvb cause various problems such as USB disconnects, kernel panics and in particular problems with mythtv.

The new code works fine and also supports the previously unsupported remote control.

Do you know if there have been any efforts to get this specific code submitted and accepted into the mainline kernel? It is a lot of extra work for the Ubuntu kernel team to maintain out of tree patches. As such they require evidence of upstream submission before considering to maintain community patches locally. Thanks.

As far as I know, nothing silly has happened in v4l-dvb land and all
the updates should make it mainline.

Thanks frink. The Hardy Heron Alpha2 release should be coming out within days (around Dec 20). It will have an updated version of the kernel. It would be great if you could test with the Alpha2 LiveCD and verify if this issue still exists or not. I'll be sure to update this report once Alpha2 is available. Thanks!

I'm opened a new task against the actively developed kernel. However, I'm closing the report against linux-source-2.6.22 as it does not meet the criteria for a stable release update. You can learn more about the stable release update process at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . Thanks!

Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/alpha2 . Thanks!

The beta of 8.04 is still showing multiple disconnects per day for the Nova-T 500 card. I've entered another bug report (before I saw this one) with a pointer to a kernel patch that appears to be the fix.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/209603

This is a one-line patch, but it makes mythtv usable for people with the Nova-T 500 card (a popular over-the-air digital TV tuner). Can this be included in the final kernel please?
