Bug Description

Hi there, i got a problem with ntp after the last update of my ubuntu 14.04 x64 after updating tzdata and reboot the system ntp still connecting any 3 min again and again i only could stop it by stoping the ntp service completly.

here are the ip 's that where connected by ntp

 129.70.132.36

5.9.156.53

144.76.172.53

131.234.137.23

91.189.94.4

I check them by doing a whois they all seems legid to me but ntp still connecting all the time,
i try sudo ntpd -q -g -x -n and it says time is still sync but ntp not stops connecting.

I reinstall a fresh Ubuntu and after updating the dist the problem still comes back!

Please check this and fix it.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Hi,
it's been a wile, but I'm cleaning up ntp bug atm.

To understand correctly, you set these IPs as ntp servers in /etc/ntp.conf right?
And the expected behaviour would be to connect ?once?, and then sync via that regularly?

could you share some logs how it appears to "reconnect" and what the expected behaviour exactly should be?
Thanks in Advance.

Hallo Christian,

# UTC Ausschalten
UTC=no

Aber vielen Dank für die wenn auch etwas späte Antwort.

So and here is the Fix for the non German speaking People.

It turn out that the Problem itself is not NTP.

In my Case it depends on a DualBoot wit Windows 7,
After making a change to /etc/default/rcS
and adding these lines

# UTC disable
UTC=no

The Problem didt not came Back.

My System-Time was always set back to UTC Time and while i Life in Germany the NTP try always to Correct it,
After adding the above lines to the above file the System was set to use Local BIOS time and dont have to always check the Servers to Correct it.

So hope i may help you with this.
