Bug Description
Binary package hint: mozilla-mplayer
mozilla-mplayer treats streams as files. For example, go to http://
Obviously this behaviour is completely inappropriate for streaming media, but it also falls far short of what we should expect when it comes to downloading and playing files. In both the Windows Media Player and Quicktime plugins the media will start to play before it has finished downloading. In other words the mplayer plugin wastes time and bandwidth.
What is even more annoying is that when the plugin is installed it usurps the job of playing realaudio and other formats from plugins such as realplayer, in effect making many streams unplayable (unless you know how to specify in firefox which plugins should play what, which I certainly don't). The mplayer plugin should defer to these other plugins until it is able to play streams properly.
Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 RC or later?
