Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt

I got this message when trying to apt-get dist-upgrade, regular apt-get upgrade worked ok. I also tried purging all listed packages and reinstalling them. They all installed ok using apt-get install but when trying to run apt-get dist-upgrade I got the same message again.

Note that xclock, xfd, xlogo, xterm are all installed even though it complains about them not going to be installed.

I have been told something to the effect that it is normal for apt to complain about completely random packages being uninstallable when it is actually another package that is the problem. If this is true then the perl problem in the archive is probably the fault of this error. But it still would be nice if apt could complain about packages that actually have problems instead of packages that are perfectly fine. It is extremely confusing even to advanced users the way it currently complains.

Thanks for reporting this bug, but unfortunately Gutsy is no longer supported, therefore we are closing this bug report. If the issue persists you may be able to get help for things like this at #ubuntu on irc.freenode.net for unsupported versions.
