I can confirm this bug on Hardy. I opened gimp, created a new image and choose to the save the image. while typing the file name gimp crashes.

I can confirm this as well. Ubuntu 8.04 with latest updates as of this comment. Same steps as Chris. Please let me know if you'd like the crash report.

Ditto. 8.04 system that has been upgraded from 7.10. Happens with other applications as well.

No longer a problem for me anymore, however I barely use Gimp now...

Sorry, mate. After a few frustrated weeks I did a clean install of 8.04
64-bit version and no longer not suffer from the problem.
