Bug Description

Binary package hint: desktop-effects

I upgraded to gutsy and was playing around with the gl desktop effects.
I wanted to turn them off because it tends to make my laptop heat up.
I can turn them off but when I reboot they are back on.

Can't reproduce — I turn off desktop effects, and they stay off after a logout/reboot.

I don't know if this is related but when I log out from a session, X seems to restart completely as I get a terminal for a moment and then the nivida logo.
When I login desktop effects are re-enabled.

Also I often have to try to open the gl desktop menu twice, as the first time nothing seems to happen. Then the second time two windows open.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 RC or later?
