Bug Description

I got a Sony Vaio Laptop:

Manufacturer: Sony Corporation

Product Name: VGN-FS315H

Version: C300NCFA

With 2.6.22-12-generic kernel, setting brightness via the gnome brightness applet does not work, nor does the power management dimming work when unplugging it from cable.
This is nothing new since it never worked, the new thing is that it works perfectly with the -386 kernel.

The fn keys are not working in either kernel but i think that has been reported very often already.

Could you please recheck it with latest Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 or the Live CD?

Yes the problem still exists BUT:

When i boot the laptop on battery, gnome power management dimming works, which means i get only half the brightness when i log into gnome. When i plug in the cord, nothing changes. SO dimming back to full does not work. The gnome brightness setting applet does *not* work tho.

When i boot the laptop on AC power, gnome power management dimming does NOT work, when i unplug the cord, i see gnome trying to set the dimming but nothing happens, applet doesnt work either.

I can set the brightness by hand tho, when i do "echo 3 > "/sys/class/backlight/sony/brightness"

This is all with gutsy -generic kernel.

If you need further information, i am more than willing to help.

Seems it didn't have anything to do with latest updates, bug reoccurred.
I haven't been able to figure out what triggers the bug or triggers the correct behavior.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

With Hardy Heron Brightness seems to work like it should.
Thanks to whoever fixed that :)

Still, special keys like volume up and down, brightness up and down are a no go :/
