Bug Description

This issue occurs with KDE 3.5.7 on Kubuntu 7.10 Beta (current as of today).

When selecting the "Log out..." option in the "K" menu the screen is supposed to fade out from top to bottom behind the option dialog that gets displayed offering variuous options ranging from log out to shutdown.

However, during the fade out the screen becomes partially garbled or displays some content from a previous screen state, i.e. it may contain information from a window that has already been closed, changed or minimized in the mean time.

I will attach a photograph of the screen that hopefully clarifies what I mean: The upper half of this photograph shows Launchpad open in Firefox whereas the lower half of the screen displays content that was not active at the time I selected "Log out...".

The issue occurs with the open source nv driver as well as with the closed source one. In case it turns out to be hardware related, I have also attached some output of lspci, dmesg as well as my Xo config and logs.

Just found bug # 144014, which suspects a nv graphics driver problem... So I will add the corresponding package.

Another observation: The problem completely disappears when disabling window translucency/shadows.

Hi Thilo-Alexander Ginkel,

Thank you for reporting this. I can confirm this behaviour on an Dell Latitude D630 with the proprietary nvidia driver on Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon, but wasn`t able to reproduce it in Hardy Heron with the same hardware. So I will set this to "fix released". But if you still experience this problem on Hardy Heron feel free to set the status back to new.

I just upgraded to the current Hardy Heron release candidate, which did not change anything, i.e., the bug is still unfixed.

Any chance this works properly with Intrepid?
