Bug Description

I have a Palm Tungsten E that connects via an USB cable. I have never had problems before connecting this device in previous Ubuntu versions until installed Ubuntu Gutsy Beta.

I can't make it synchronize with gnome-pilot because /dev/pilot does not exist, and I can't mount this as an usb storage device (for which I use Softick CardExport) to access to its 512MB SD memory card (it used to be detected /dev/sda1, and automounted, but this doesn't happen now)

Both actions worked flawlessly in Ubuntu 7.04

output of "lsmod | grep usb" (when trying to synchronize):

usb_storage 72896 0
libusual 18192 1 usb_storage
ide_core 116548 4 usb_storage,ide_cd,ide_disk,amd74xx
usbhid 29536 0
hid 28928 1 usbhid
scsi_mod 147084 4 sg,sd_mod,usb_storage,libata
usbcore 138248 6 usb_storage,libusual,usbhid,ehci_hcd,ohci_hcd

output of "lsmod | grep usb" (when trying to connect as an USB storage device):
usb_storage 72896 1
libusual 18192 1 usb_storage
ide_core 116548 4 usb_storage,ide_cd,ide_disk,amd74xx
usbhid 29536 0
hid 28928 1 usbhid
scsi_mod 147084 4 sg,sd_mod,usb_storage,libata
usbcore 138248 6 usb_storage,libusual,usbhid,ehci_hcd,ohci_hcd

I have an usb mouse (Logitech MX500) that works with no problems

I also tried connecting a Fujifilm E550 Camera via usb and it automounted with no problems.

I'll upload the logs in the next posts

Partial fix, the module "visor" was not loaded, now /dev/pilot is created and it's possible to synchronize the palm.
Added visor to /etc/modules and everything is ok. Perhaps this should be done automatically when a pilot app is installed.

As for connecting as a USB Drive, I'm still searching

I'm glad you were able to get synchronization working, sancheztavo. Are you still unable to get it to work as a USB drive? What steps are you taking that ought to make the usb storage function work?

No, it doesn't work yet, and Hardy kernel was doing the same. Unfortunately I don't have Ubuntu installed anymore because y moved to Debian lenny, with kernel 2.6.22-3-k7 and the problem exists in Debian too... I think it's a problem of the kernel, but I have tried recompiling it with different options without success.

Yes, that does sound like a kernel issue. I would recommend sending it to Debian's bug tracker and continuing to follow up there. For encouragement, I was able to find someone who _can_ access your Tungsten E as a USB drive, but using proprietary software called Card Export II.

I'm going to go ahead and close this bug though. If you switch back to Ubuntu and still can't get it to work, open this bug back up and we'll be glad to help you more. Good luck!
